My girlfriend was offered a job in the United States and received a long-term H-1B visa. Since we were not married, I was not permitted to enter the United States under her visa as a dependent; neither did I have an employer in the States lined up. I was going to use my ESTA 90 days and stay for a couple of months and then re-enter etc. I saw an interview on RTE with Caro and set up a consultation.
Caro suggested applying for a household visa. As we were residing together, a household visa would allow me to stay in the United States for the same length of time as my girlfriend. Her visa was initially for three years, so this was a much better option than a ESTA visa waiver. We did not want to be separated, and we did not want to be forced to marry either.
Caro went through all the documents, and she spent an hour prepping me for the interview as I was nervous. When I went to the interview, the officer was reluctant to give me the household visa, because I understood the law better as Caro explained it I was able to speak up and the officer approved my visa. I explained that I wanted the household visa to stay with my girlfriend and that my job allowed me to work online with clients outside of the United States. The officer asked many questions to ensure that I would not be working for U.S. clients, as the household visa only permits me to stay in the U.S. legally but not to work. If I want to work, I need to apply for a different visa. My household visa was approved, and I am now in the United States with my girlfriend.
